While university is a place where knowledge is shared and developed, it is also a place where labels are imposed upon student learners. These labels are those of “home” and “international,” terms which act to categorise students even before they enter university life. It is important to consider how these terms may play a part in shaping the identity of student learners. The way a student identifies themselves in connection to these labels may directly affect the way they navigate a space for themselves in the classroom along with the way in which they engage with the learning process. Furthermore, these labels may influence the way in which the student individual is perceived in a higher education setting, and/or the way a student perceives his/herself.
